Designer name: Richard Nicoll
Origin: Richard was born in London and grew up in Australia.
Career highlight: “It hopefully hasn’t happened yet.”
What he says: “My clothes are democratic, idiosyncratic clothes for life.”
Who is your ideal customer? “Linder Sterling because she is strong, empathetic, creative, unique and intelligent.”
What’s new for you this season? “Onwards and upwards, we've just had our best selling resort and are focusing on the extension of Richard Nicoll Shirt line as well as being mid realising an exciting new spring/summer collection.”
Where do you go in London to seek ideas for a forthcoming collection? “Lately I've been spending a lot of time cycling on the canal systems of East London, there's an amazing new cafe on the canal called the Tow Path. I moved recently to Chisenhale Road in Victoria Park, the same street as the Chisenhale Gallery so it's handy for cultural top-ups.”
As fashion fuses ever closer with art, film and music, how has London’s vibrant cultural scene influenced your SS11 collection? “I've a great group of friends that work across all these disciplines; we're collaborating on projects more than ever. There seems to be almost total crossover of art, film, music and fashion. This camaraderie (which I think is unique to London) always has a huge influence on my work.”
