The joint initiative between TOPMAN and Fashion East returns to the runway as part of London Collections: Men in January 2013. Established in 2005, the London menswear platform is the original pioneering champion of new talent.
Alumnus of the support scheme, James Long says: “The extent of the support from TOPMAN and Fashion East makes the MAN show an amazing place to launch your career. From MAN I went onto NEWGEN MEN sponsored by TOPMAN – both fantastic initiatives, which have progressed my brand to the next level.”
For the Autumn/Winter 2013 show Astrid Andersen and Agi & Sam have been awarded a third season of support and are joined by newcomer Craig Green, who showed with the Fashion East’s Installations for Spring/Summer 2013.
Sam Lobban, Mr Porter’s Contemporary Buyer and MAN panel member says: “The AW13 MAN line-up has a great mix of aesthetics, and I am really excited by the addition of Craig Green. His clean and impactful use of print is great, and will work really well in conjunction with Agi & Sam’s vibrancy and Astrid’s urban sports chic. I can’t wait to see what each puts together for AW13!”
Craig Green graduated top of his class from Central St Martins’ highly acclaimed MA course in February 2012, receiving the L’Oreal Professional Creative Award for his stand out collection and catching the eye of Style.com’s Tim Blanks who noted Green’s ‘precise monochrome layering’.
For SS13, Green showed a collection comprised of tonal crinkle washed calico, mohair and muslin cheesecloth at Fashion East’s Installations. Green is multidisciplinary in his approach, realising conceptual narratives through unique garment treatments such as raw cut anti-fray hems and rubber dipped sleeves, placement prints techniques, as well as dramatic sculptural showpieces.
Custom headpieces for Christopher Shannon have only added to the buzz surrounding Green. His debut catwalk show is highly anticipated.
Agi & Sam
Joining forces after meeting at Alexander McQueen, Agape Mdumullla and Sam Cotton have proven that their formula of sharp cuts, bespoke prints and a heavy dose of humour works wonders.
Standing out at Fashion East’s Installations, they went on to debut with MAN for AW12. For SS13 they sent moustachioed models down the runway clad in OTT prints. Inspired by 80’s detective TV programmes watched from their grandparents’ sofas, the duo’s talent lies in translating surreal references into chic garments. The likes of The Guardian, i-D and GQ are fans.
Having recently sat atop the Sunday Times Style ‘Going Up’ Barometer thanks to their exclusive womenswear capsule for Harvey Nichols, the buzz around Agi & Sam goes from strength to strength.
Dane Astrid Andersen has been making waves with her über luxurious sportswear for two seasons on the MAN catwalk.
Reinvigorating her signature gym-inspired wear for Spring/Summer 2013, Andersen presented a collection rich in diaphanous layers, mesh, lime lace and pastel- hued Kopenhagen furs. The result fuses traditional sportswear shapes such as tracksuits and basketball shorts with innovative techniques.
Entering the industry with a string of awards to her name, winning the Brioni innovation Award and River Island MA Student Bursary Award, the RCA alum has received phenomenal support from such collaborators as Simon Foxton and Elgar Johnson. Astrid Andersen is stocked by Bespoke, Candy, The Library and GR8, to name a few.
