The joint initiative between TOPMAN and Fashion East returns to the runway for the 15th consecutive season as part of the inaugural London Collections: MEN. Having championed the best and brightest new menswear talent on the catwalk since 2005, the MAN team are delighted that British menswear has finally been awarded its own fashion week.
Following Autumn/Winter 2012’s stellar line up of Agi & Sam, Astrid Andersen and Shaun Samson, the panel and Lulu Kennedy MBE have invited the trio to return and show their Spring/Summer 2013 collections. Shaun Samson shows on the MAN catwalk for a third time, while Agi & Sam and Astrid Andersen return following a highly successful debut and having previously proved themselves at the Fashion East Menswear Installation.
Designers are selected by a panel of industry experts including Mr Porter’s Sam Lobban, Arena’s Andrew Davis and GQ Style’s Ben Reardon. Mentoring the designers, the panel play a crucial role in fast tracking their brands, helping them onto such schemes as the British Fashion Council’s LONDON show ROOMS in Paris and New York.
Charlie Porter, Fantastic Man Deputy Editor and MAN panel member says "I'm so excited by the MAN line-up. It's going to be amazing for Agi & Sam, Shaun Samson and Astrid Andersen to show all their talent and promise in front of the new international audience at London Collections: Men."
Samson’s ‘Men’s Modern Street Wear’, inspired by a childhood in San Diego, was refined at Central Saint Martins after degrees in California. His graduate collection garnered much attention: he was awarded the prestigious ITS # 10 prize and was asked by the Trading Museum/Comme Des Garcons Japan to recreate garments from the collection. More recently, he featured in Selfridges’ Bright Young Things initiative and has collaborated with Topman on their Denim Jacket Project. Muting his colourful Mexican inspired debut for SS12, his AW12 collection fused Latino influences and fabric experimentation, topped off with Timberland boots. Stockists include Selfridges, Joyce, Opening
Ceremony NY and LA and Trading Museum/Comme des Garcons Japan.
Agi & Sam
Having shone at the Fashion East Menswear Installation for two seasons prior to their AW12 show with MAN, for their debut catwalk show they presented a collection made from GreenPac fabric made from recycled bottles. Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton met whilst working at Alexander McQueen – Agi with the design team after graduating in fashion design and Sam producing prints off the back of his BA in illustration. They founded their label in January 2010 to create a modern menswear brand with an emphasis on humour and bespoke print. Their ascent has been rapid thanks to fans such as The Guardian, i-D, GQ and Fantastic Man’s Charlie Porter. They recently installed a concept window and SS12 pop up shop at START. They are stocked by Sefton, Wut Berlin, Night Vision and The Unconventional.
Dane and Royal College of Art graduate Astrid Andersen aims to break down traditional sportswear stereotypes and give it a new resonance within luxury fashion. Her graduate collection, styled by Simon Foxton, was rapturously received and she has been featured everywhere from i-D and Dazed & Confused to The Financial Times and VOGUE UK. Her powerful debut catwalk show featured burnt orange, neon pink and grey sportsluxe pieces accessorised with facial tattoos. With international support from across the industry and increasing interest from stockists and
collaborators, she remains one-to-watch for innovative and contemporary menswear. Stockists include Bespoke, Candy, The Library and Gr8.
