Fashion Forward Womenswear 2013
Three womenswear designers have been awarded Fashion Forward sponsorship for 2013, supporting them to show at London Fashion Week and develop their businesses through access to a range of advisors. The scheme is sponsored by eBay Fashion and supported by the Mayor of London.
With the news that PPR have acquired a 51% stake of the luxury designer brand Christopher Kane, we take a look back at Christopher's career, recipient of NEWGEN sponsorship for four seasons (SS07 - AW08), Fashion Forward sponsorship for three seasons (SS09 - SS10) and winner of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund in 2011. This album includes catwalk looks and backstage imagery from his first independent show in September 2006, where he showcased his spring/summer 2007 collection at London Fashion Week.
A Celebration of British Fashion in 2012
On Tuesday 18th September, the British fashion industry gathered to celebrate British fashion in 2012 and the announcement of Natalie Massenet MBE as Chairman of the BFC from January 2013. Samantha Cameron, Harold Tillman CBE and Natalie Massenet MBE gave speeches on the SS13 season at London Fashion Week, the industry and Natalie's new role.

Anya Hindmarch and Caroline Rush (CEO, BFC) hosted an intimate dinner at the Royal Academy of Arts during London Fashion Week, on Sunday 16th September. Guests included Linda Fargo (Bergdorf Goodman), Ken Downing (Neiman Marcus) and Julie Gilhart
Rock Vault Event at LFW
Rock Vault launched on Saturday 15th September at London Fashion Week, celebrating the SS13 collections and unveiling the 'Rock Vault Dozen' from London's most innovative fine jewellery talent. BFC Rock Vault is sponsored by the International Palladium Board and curated by Stephen Webster.
Matches LFW Launch
On Friday 14h September, the first day of London Fashion Week SS13, Matches launched their in-store celebration of London-based designers. For Fashion Week, the Matches Marylebone store has been turned into a celebration of all things British only showcasing British womenswear and menswear.
Fash/On Film SS13 Launch
BFC Fash/On Film sponsored by River Island launched on Friday 14th September with a film screening and champagne reception at Somerset House. After speeches from Fash/On Film panel members Josie Roscop, Laura Bailey and Stephen Whelan, 9 films were screened including ‘It will not always be summer’ by Ryan Hope for River Island Design Forum by William Tempest and ‘TRACES’ by Abbie Stephens for Emilio de la Morena. This film was commissioned by River Island and the British Fashion Council for the Fash/On Film Mentoring Scheme.
Green Cut Launch
On Thursday 13th September, The Green Carpet Challenge co-founders Livia Firth and Lucy Siegle in collaboration with American Express, launched Green Cut. Green Cut is a unique initiative which pairs eight seminal fashion designers with eight iconic British films to raise awareness of a sustainable approach to fashion design. Designers including Antonio Berardi, Jonathan Saunders and Roksanda Ilincic, created bespoke pieces which offered a contemporary take on a classic film. The collection is on show for the duration of London Fashion Week as part of The Exhibition, 14th - 18th September.
NEWGEN Winners Event SS13
London's spring/summer 2013 NEWGEN designers were announced at Somerset House on Monday 18th June 2012. BFC CEO Caroline Rush welcomed press and buyers with NEWGEN panel member Mel Rickey (Fashion Editor at Large) and Topshop MD Mary Homer. As part of London Collections: Women, the winning designers showcased their designs for the rest of the afternoon in the East Wing of Somerset House.
