London-based designer A Sai, a Central Saint Martins graduate, credits his work to the capital's effortless synthesis of fashion characters. Drawing not only from the array of quirky aesthetics that run rife on the streets, his work explores the nuances of his cultural heritage as a second-generation Londoner. A summation of A Sai's designs can be described as going against the grain – taking the familiar and reconceptualising it. A mash up of naughties and sportswear influence, fabrics in vibrant hues are so zealously distressed he has coined this unique technique as ‘interlocking embroidery'. At the core of his designs, intricate textiles and exhaustive details, mirrors the designer's appeal to disrupt familiar visual codes. His technical dexterity isn't hard to spot – headhunted and whisked away by Kanye West's Yeezy a year into his schooling, A Sai eventually returned to London to lay the foundations for his eponymous label. Vehemently subverting long-standing notions of luxury fashion, A Sai's designs are proudly marked with the insignia of ‘anti-perfectionism'.
