DESIGNER NAME: Olga Vilshenko
BACKGROUND: Olga comes from Zlatoust in Russia. Her unique aesthetic was honed at the Institute of Fashion and Art in Russia and London’s Istituto Marangoni. Olga Vilshenko now splits her time between these two capital cities, maintaining a studio in each.
SIGNATURES: “Sharp, clean tailoring with a military influence.”
TRADEMARK PIECE: “Anything printed and/or embroidered, influenced by traditional Russian style. Lots of floor length dresses, loose peasant-style blouses and fur are always present.”
IDEAL CLIENT: “Women who want to dress stylishly while looking so effortlessly.”
THE COLLECTION: “My AW13 collection is inspired by silhouettes of the 70s. There are feminine, elegant dresses and blouses in the collection. Dresses are body conscious with floral prints. They also contrast with other masculine silhouettes seen in suits and coats in the collection.”
CULTURAL INFLUENCES: “My collection always has elements of Russian heritage such as the traditional costume elements, colours and graphic elements inherent in pieces. This is the basis of my collections and everything around me in Russia has an impact on my designs and collections, including traditional music, art, literature and even architecture.”
PLANS FOR 2013: “For 2013 I am planning to have a catwalk show. I would also like to expand my brand further within Europe and I’m planning to advertise in both Vogue UK and Vogue Russia.”
