DESIGNER NAME: Astrid Anderson
BACKGROUND: Astrid Andersen redefines the boundaries of contemporary menswear, questioning the juxtaposition of strength and sensitivity within the modern masculine aesthetic. Bold uses of branding and the ubiquitous logo make strong external statements about belonging, a constant theme for the brand. Astrid Andersen is a true innovator with a global following for her genre leading approach to premium sportswear. Astrid graduated from The Royal College of Art in 2010 and went on the win the Brioni Creativity and Innovation Award and the River Island MA Student Bursary Award designing three looks for the high street retailer.
SIGNATURES: “To create a look that is masculine, using street attitude and hip-hop references whilst playing on more feminine materials and colours.”
TRADEMARK PIECES: “The cropped puff jacket and the basketball tank.”
THE COLLECTION: "This spring/summer's mood is inspired by a continued fascination with Asian culture; focusing on the Japanese tradition of Sumo and the dichotomy between the fragility and restraint of the rituals and rites connected to the sport against the powerful expression of the Sumo match. The high regard for aesthetic considerations and respect for historical context and meaning reveal sensitivity within a masculine environment that is unparalleled within contact sports elsewhere and again combines the two constant themes within my work of strength and fragility."
