DESIGNER NAME: Carry Somers
BACKGROUND: Somers is from the UK and studied for an MA in Native American Studies at the University of Essex.
TRADEMARK PIECE: “This season we have taken a fresh look at 20th century classic and utilitarian hats, from Italian moped helmets to aviator hats. Our deerstalker hats epitomise the modern take on classics for which Pachacuti is known, combining structured felt with bold, stand-up bows, pheasant feathers and Dashing Tweeds earflaps featuring reflective tweed stripes.”
THE COLLECTION: “Pachacuti’s spring/summer 2015 collection draws its inspirations from the Plant Hunters. Rich botanical-print trims and subtle hues of naturally-dyed silk using plants such as woad, marigold, madder and logwood. We hope this collection will help to raise awareness of the importance of present day Plant Hunters and their explorations.”
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVMENT: “Fashion Revolution Day, without a doubt. From a crazy idea I had in the bathtub a few days after the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, Fashion Revolution has now spread to 62 countries.”
IF YOU COULD DRESS ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? “Benedict Cumberbatch. After seeing the straw hat he wore to Chelsea Flower Show, he definitely needs a beautiful Panama hat.”
