Origin: Originally from Turkey, Bora has been based in London for 15 years.

Career highlight: “There have been many: seven window displays at Selfridges; 4 times NEWGEN recipient; meeting with Queen.”

Design background: Bora set up his label upon graduation from his MA at Central Saint Martins.

Design signatures: “My signature style is based upon finding the balance point between contrasts. It’s romantic with a darker twist.”

How would you describe the Bora Aksu woman? “She defines beauty in her own way. Tori Amos captures this for me.”

What is inspiring you for spring/summer 2011: “Ants and my mum’s photos from sixties.”

What is your brand philosophy? “Creating demi-couture pieces that are timeless and unique.”

How do you see the brand moving forward and developing? “The spirit of the brand is very personal and the dresses are very couture like. Whilst keeping the main collection as it is, I would like to develop different lines under its umbrella. The cocktail line is an example of an affordable range from the brand. I would like to expand into accessories.”

What's new for you this season? “The designs are much more experimental and darker. I developed new techniques and ways to construct the garments.”
