Stine Goya

DESIGNER NAME: Stine Goya

BACKGROUND: Goya is from Copenhagen, Denmark. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2005 with a degree in fashion and print, before working with several different designers such as Eley Kishimoto, Hussein Chalayan and Jonathan Saunders. Her first collection was presented during the Copenhagen Fashion Week in February 2007. Since then, Goya has presented a new collection twice a year, and in 2012 she launched her first pre-collection and is now presenting two main and two pre-collections a year.

SIGNATURES: “Strong prints and delicate, soft colours - especially pastels - are definitely my signature. Together with feminine styles and elegant details, I try to create a coherent collection which is both exciting and easy to identify with.”

TRADEMARK PIECE: “The black Verne jacket with gold foil print.”

IDEAL CLIENT:  “I don’t design with a specific girl in mind, but I know that both 15 year old girls and grown up women are buying from my collections and I'm very happy about that.”

CULTURAL INFLUENCES: “The inspiration behind the AW13 collection ‘La Voyage Dans La Luna' lies in the French film director George Méilés’ movie A Trip to the Moon, in which a handful of astronomers travel to the moon to explore the unknown.

The water based colours in the movie bear a resemblance to the colour scale of the collection, which ranges from delicate cream and cold grey nuances to tones of ruby red, midnight black and magenta. The moon’s obscure mystery, the universe’s overwhelming dark loneliness, the stars’ seductive play of lights and the sun’s endless warmth echo throughout the collection.
The astronomers’ uniforms are very similar to traditional spacesuits, which is reflected in the collection’s wide silhouettes. Similarly, the hard surface of the moon, the blackness of the atmosphere and the weightless depth in space has been interpreted in leather, wool and feathers. Glimpses of stars, crystals, moon landscapes and maze patterns are noticeable in the collection to depict the expedition’s exploration.”

PLANS FOR 2013: “I am aiming to showcase my collections in even more British shops in the near future.”
