Design background: Astrid graduated from The Royal College of Art in 2010 and went on the win the Brioni Creativity and Innovation Award and the River Island MA Student Bursary Award designing three looks for the high street retailer.
Design signatures: “To create a look that is masculine, using street attitude and hip-hop references whilst playing on more feminine materials and colours.”
Career highlight: “Amazingly it seems there is a new highlight each season! The MAN show is by far the greatest thing.”
How would you describe the Astrid Andersen man? “Confident above all.”
Trademark pieces: “The cropped puff jacket and the basketball tank.”
What is your brand philosophy? “To create clothes that make men feel powerful and sexy.”
Price range at retail: “It ranges from £85 caps to £950 jackets. A basketball tank is about £250 and sweatpants £325.”
Three autumn/winter 2012 inspirations: “Wu Tang Clan, Abs and Shaolin monks.”
What does 2012 hold for your brand? “The MAN show provides an amazing opportunity to expand. I’m also planning a collaboration that will bring broader technical know-how to the brand. I get to work with Simon Foxton again too - my high school dream crush come true!”
What is your favourite decade in fashion? “I love the nineties for all its bad taste, baggy jeans, braids and crop-tops.”
Where do you go in London to seek artistic inspiration? “I find myself in Shepherd’s Bush a lot!”
